What is a sewer scope inspection?
If your new home is connected to a sewer system, it is important to know if this drain pipe is in good working order. The main drain line that runs from the house out to the sewer main line, typically out under the street can be anywhere from 3 to 15 feet deep, or in some circumstances even deeper.
The inspector will use a specialized camera to inspect the functionality of the main drain line from the home. This camera is fully submersible and has a powerful light attached to the camera head.
While water is running in the drain line, the inspector will push the camera down the pipe and out to the sewer main connection. If the inspector observes any defects, such as damaged pipe, debris, tree roots, or standing water, they will use a special tool to determine the depth and location of the problem area. A video of the inspection, as well as photos will be included with your sewer scope inspection report.
